Survey

Q 1: Have you ever seen someone related to you with a hand gun?
Q 2: Have you ever been bullied?
Q 3: Have you ever thought of hurting someone really bad?
Q 4: Did you ever hear of any school shooting incident?
Q 5: Was/is there any bullying at your school?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Based on the survey we did to 21 people including students and teachers, we discovered that nowadays is a very common thing to have a gun or at least have seen one and this might contribute to the fact that obtaining them so easily, influence people to commit acts of violence.

About bullying, the results of this survey clearly show us that as well as in the USA, in our country most of the people have suffered from bullying and can relate to our topic. Luckily all of the people surveyed have already heard of this kind of incident and show interest in learning more.

Bullying

Bullying is common between teenagers, mainly at school but also outside of it. Actually at least 10% of them are bullied on regular basis.
Most of all it can be physical or verbal but it follows a certain pastern. Boys tend to use physical threats and the victim can be either a boy or a girl. On the other hand, girls stick to their gender when it comes to the victim and they usually use verbal offences.
However, all bullies search for weak children, often younger or smaller than them, with not too many friends and easily intimidating. This is because, teenagers who bully are eager to control and dominate others because they have somehow been victims of physical abuse or bullied themselves.
Bulling is something that can cause terrible suffering. It can interfere with your social and academic life and without early intervention it can lead to emotional and even legal difficulties.
Mostly bulling victims became depressed or reluctant to go to school and their grades can be poorer. Children who have been bullied can even attempt suicide.
When bullying is detected, the best thing to do is to seek help from professionals. Pediatrician, teacher, principal, school counselor or psychiatrist, anyone who can help the child understand the cause of the bullying and maybe to help the school create a program to prevent and stop students´ destructive behavior.
To combat bullying you can try anger management training, peer mediation, conflict resolution and increased adult supervision on playgrounds, in lunch rooms, bathrooms, on school busses or unsupervised halls.
What is most important is to detect this problem, find professional assistance as soon as possible and try to diminish lasting emotional concecuenses for the child.

Rise Against- Make It Stop

Make It Stop (September's Children)

Rise Against

Woah, woah.
Bang bang go the coffin nails
Like a breath exhaled,
Then gone forever.
It seems just like yesterday
How did i miss the red flags raise?
Think back to the days we laughed
We braved these bitter storms together
Brought to his knees he cried,
But on his feet he died.
What god would damn a heart?
And what god drove us apart?
What god could...
Make it stop
Let this end.
Eighteen years pushed to the ledge.
It's come to this,
A weightless step.
On the way down singing,
Woah, woah.
Bang bang from the closet walls,
The schoolhouse halls,
The shotgun's loaded.
Push me and i'll push back.
I'm done asking, i demand.
From a nation under god,
I feel it's love like a cattle prod.
Born free, but still they hate.
Born me, i can't change.
It's always darkest just before the dawn.
So stay awake with me, let's prove them wrong.
Make it stop.
Let this end,
Eighteen years pushed to the ledge.
It's come to this,
A weightless step.
On the way down singing,
Woah, woah.
The cold river washed him away,
But how could we forget.
The gatherings hold candles
But not their tongues
Too much blood has flown from the wrists,
Of the children shamed for those they chose to kiss.
Who will rise to stop the blood?
We're calling for,
Insisting on, a different beat, yeah.
A brand new song.
Make this stop
Make this end
This life chose me, I'm not lost in sin
But proud I stand of who I am
I plan go on living

Virginia Tech Messecre

The slaughter at Virginia Tech was a mass murder that occurred on April 16, 2007 at the Polytechnic Institute and State University Virginia (known as Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. The incident killed thirty-three people, including the only killer who started the shooting, and 29 people were wounded. It is the worst attack on a university in the history of the United States.

The first shooting occurred on campus at the West Ambler Johnston dormitory Hall, where more than 800 students. They died two people. Two hours later, the killer shot himself in one of the classrooms of Norris Hall, building located about 600 meters from the complex of rooms, causing 30 deaths more. Researchers are still trying to clarify where the attacker was kept hidden during that time and how did he went over that distance traveled. Therefore, the hypothesis initially suggested the possibility that they were two authors of the attack.

The author of the slaughter was identified by authorities as Cho Seung-Hui (23), a South Korean student of English literature, raised in Virginia and residing in the university. Cho had previously been diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder and during middle school and high school years, he received therapy and special support. Of course, the university didn’t had a register of this diagnosis, however Cho was accused of stalking two female students. After an investigation, a Virginia special justice declared Cho mentally ill and ordered him to attend treatment. The Los Angeles Times reported that he planned the attack for two weeks, because, as revealed Cho purchased two handguns in that period. According to the FBI agent Brad Garrett, "This crime has not been spontaneous. He’s probably been thinking about it for many months before the massacre"

During the two hours between a shooting and another, the murderer sent a postal to NBC News, which had a manifesto, photos and videos expressing his hate and resentment towards society in general. Among the material was a DVD with 27 video files. They appear Cho Seung-Hui speaking directly to the camera, saying things like: ''You had 100 billion chances and ways to avoid what happened today. But you decided to spill my blood ".
Were also 43 photographs, several of which are seen Seung-Hui pointing a gun at the camera and himself.

Carmen de Patagones case

In Carmen de Patagones, a city in the south of Buenos Aires, a teenage student shot with a handgun to his companions, killing 4 students and wounding 5 students. Two girls and one boy were killed instantly and one out of the five student wounded, died in the hospital. All the victims were about 14 and 16 years old. Four of the wounded were treated immediately on the scene and a fifth student was hospitalized in serious condition, and then died.

The 15-year-old student entered the room without saying a word and began firing a 9-millimeter handgun, aiming first at the walls as students cowered under their desks.

This occurred around 7:30 am when the shooting start, they were students in the classroom but it was before the teacher had shown up. Students who were outside the classroom at the time told local television they thought they heard firecrackers going off, then saw bloodied students screaming as they fled the classroom.

Some students could hear the gunfire and the people screaming, also some students said that they saw three bodies on the floor with bullets wounds.

This episode impacted all the country and touched off a debate on national television about rising violence in public schools in Argentina. But this recent act of school violence has also come on the heels of a crime wave in Argentina marked by ransom kidnappings, street shootings and carjackings.

Columbine High School massacre

On April 20, 1999, two senior students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, USA, prepared to kill 12 students a teacher and 21 other students who were injured. The names of the murderers were Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, which right after provoking the massacre decided to suicide.
The first worrying signs that later called everybody’s attention, were that both Dylan and Eric had a web page and a blog on the internet in which they manifested their thoughts regarding their parents, teachers, students, school and friends; such as how annoying were some the students and teachers and the desire to kill them. To make it worse, they later began to upload instructions that explained how to make explosives and death threats towards Brooks, a classmate. This fact alarmed Brooks mother, who called the sheriff in order to make them be investigated.
On Junuary 30, 1998, the police caught them with stolen tools and equipment, so they were arrested and sentenced to juvenile diversion. Harris’s parents also decided to sent him to psychology therapy for about a year, until a few months before the attack.
At 11:00 am on Tuesday, 20 April 1999, Eric and Harris arrived at school and parked their cars in place where both of them had perfect view of the cafeteria’s entrance and the main exit of the building. Just a few minutes before lunch time, they entered the cafeteria and set up bombs, which finally didn’t worked. Dispite this, they arranged to get into the cafeteria when everyone was there, and with the 9 mm semi-automatic carbine rifle (which they acquired from a friend, among others) Harris began shotting at Rachel Scott and Richard Castaldo. They continued shotting to many students that were inside the building and then to some others that were located on the entrance of the school, in the soccer field, the library and everywhere they saw somebody on their way. At 11:24 a sheriff got into the school, but he was shot and injured, so they could keep on shooting until 11:42, when they decided to end the massacre and some minutes after they committed suicide.
The columbine High School massacre is known nowadays as one of the most tragic true stories all over the world that thanks to the insanity and mental illness of the terrorists (due to bullying, discrimination and other factors) culminated in injury and death of a large number of young innocents.
